Planning and customer service the keys to success
Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems report that small laundry operations are continuing to thrive. Existing businesses need to be nimble, adapting to the changing needs of the customers and to aggressive competition. Start ups must establish a niche and tailor their operation to fit into it. Newcomers to the industry benefit from the advice of very experienced companies such as Armstrong
When Perry Bowen and his fiancée Jan Jones decided to start a business in Tenby they took the time to do a thorough appraisal of the market. After looking hard at the main suppliers Perry called in Armstrong to help with the planning. ‘Armstrong’s input was invaluable’ says Perry. ‘Having Primus freestanding washer extractors of 7, 10 and 16 kg capacities means I never have to run an underloaded machine and the 350 litre Huebsch dryers complement them perfectly.’
Marlin Laundry Services is going exactly according to the plan. Although the bulk of the business is seasonal, ‘we have also attracted some regular contract work. For instance we look after a local environmental cleaning company’s overalls and we work for local butchers’ says Jan Jones. ‘The versatility of the Primus equipment is a great help. The electronic controls mean we can go from delicate personal clothing to a powerful disinfection programme in a second.’
