The University of Birmingham has awarded Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems a contract to re-equip the launderettes throughout the campus. The installation work has already begun, with three launderettes already completed at the Pritchatts Park and Tennis Court sites in Edgbaston. Other sites will be redeveloped as existing arrangements end.

The equipment is mainly coin-operated Speed Queen Horizon washers and dryers and on some sites, Primus washers with Loadstar tumble dryers. Jane Colbourne of the University Procurement Department said ‘The factors involved in the decision were primarily the usual ones of performance, price and reliability. We are committed to providing our students with the highest standards of quality and value and the reliability requirements of a student launderette operation are high. Additionally we researched the environmental impact of the various options. We are confident that Armstrong are providing the best, most comprehensive solution available.’
