Armstrong supply three Lapauw Ironers to White Knight in major refit at Caversham plant

As part of a major refit programme, Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems has recently supplied, installed and commissioned three Lapauw gas heated ironers at White Knight Laundry Services in Caversham near Reading. This was the first re-equipment of the plant since 1987 and the company carried out a thorough investigation of the market, looking at all the major laundry equipment suppliers. According to Robert Adams, managing director of White Knight, Armstrong was selected to supply the ironers because there was no doubt that these were the best quality ironers on the market.

The machines supplied were two Lapauw 2-roll 1200mm roll diameter x 3300mm working width gas heated TurfoFAN® ironers and one Lapauw 2-roll 1200mm roll diameter x 400mm working width gas heated TurboFAN® ironer to handle smaller items. Combined with Lapauw’s microprocessor and ELS controls, the TurboFAN® offers improved productivity and quality when processing all types of flat linen (sheets, tablecloths, napkins, duvet covers and pillowcases) direct from the tunnel washer, whilst minimising energy consumption resulting in reduced utility bills.

The new ironers were delivered to the plant on three 40ft articulated lorries direct from the manufacturing plant in Belgium, were off-loaded by crane and then installed under the supervision of four Armstrong engineers over a two-week period. The laundry did not have to close during the installation and, according to Robert Adams, “it was all carried out very efficiently and the engineers were excellent, keeping disruption to a minimum”.

The Caversham plant handles laundry from the hospitality, healthcare, education and industrial sectors, employing some 60 people and running two shifts and is reporting that business is currently good and they have a lot of interest from new customers.
