Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems have recently supplied a Speed Queen heavy duty top loading washing machine to the Horse Hospital near Monmouth for washing horse rugs.
The Horse Hospital is operated by the Society for the Welfare of Horses and Ponies which is a registered charity financed entirely by public donation. It has been running for 40 years, taking in malnourished, abused, injured and sick horses, nursing them back to health and re-homing them. It can take up to 70 horses and costs £250,000 a year to run. It is run by just three full time girls who work with the horses, as well as volunteers who come in when they can. Jenny MacGregor, chairman of the charity, told us that at this time of year the washing machine was in use every day, often several times a day. In addition to the rugs used for the horses in the hospital, they quite often get rugs donated which they can sell, and which need a wash before selling.
The Speed Queen SWT top loading washer has a large capacity 79 litre drum with a choice of three energy saving and three regular programmes. A high extract speed of 710 rpm reduces moisture retention and drying time. The Speed Queen automatic balance system (ABS) provides the industry’s best out-of-balance handling, ensuring smooth and quiet operation.
Jenny MacGregor said, “We have been very pleased with the machine – it is easy for the girls to use and does a good job on the rugs. Armstrong has been very helpful to us.”
