Three laundries at one of the country’s oldest schools rely on Armstrong

The Elms School in Malvern is one of the country’s oldest schools – last year celebrating 400 years since it was founded in 1614.  With some 120 of its 170 pupils boarding at least some of the time there is plenty of washing to be done!
The school has three laundries – one in each of the boys’ and girls’ changing rooms that handles all the games kit and swimming towels, and one upstairs which handles all the bedding including duvets, bath towels and the pupils’ and staff personal clothing.  The three laundries have been equipped and supported by Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems for many years and recently purchased a new Huebsch 30lb capacity tumble dryer for the upstairs laundry – replacing one which had been in continuous use since 1999!

The laundries are operated by Sandra Beard, head of laundry, and three laundry ladies.  “The laundries seem to be in more or less constant use,” Sandra told us.  “I often start them off at 5.30am and they are rarely finished before 6.00pm.  And when there are matches the changing rooms laundries are often operating during the evening as well.  We are thrilled with the new dryer – it’s the same type as before, but has been updated and is even easier to use and more efficient than the last one”.

The Elms takes girls and boys from the age of four through to 13.  From 8 years old many of the children board, but the boarding arrangements are designed to be extremely flexible to suit different children and different families.

What our clients say...

  • “Our machines have come from several suppliers – there is a big difference in the standards of support we receive and Armstrong gets 10 out of 10 – their service has been consistently excellent over several years and when you’re as busy as we are, that’s very important.”

    Jacqui Butler

  • “It’s important to get the right equipment for the job, too small and it won’t do it properly, too big and you are wasting money, energy and space. It is also important to deal with a company you trust to supply reliable equipment and give you the support you need. As expected, the installation went smoothly, we have never had the slightest problem and I know Armstrong will deal with it if we do.”

    Colin Farquharson, St Ermin’s Hotel

  • “Our relationship with Armstrong goes back a long way, and they continue to give us excellent service and extremely reliable equipment.”

    Suzy Brandwood, The Elms School
